Harry Kane draws level with Jimmy Greaves to give Tottenham vital win

Gambar
Harry Kane now stands level with Jimmy Greaves at the top of Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time goalscoring record after netting for the 266th time for the club. His latest goal, scored despite suffering from a fever, was enough to drag Spurs out of their rut and put Antonio Conte’s team back in Champions League contention, three points behind Manchester United. The big difference, of course, is that Greaves won three major trophies with Spurs and Kane is still chasing his first piece of team silverware, while having to scrap it out for European qualification. Conte said: “It’s important to have this record, but what is more important is to lift a trophy.”Asked if winning silverware at Spurs is realistic, Conte added: “We have to be dreamers. I said to the players today that this (victory) has to be a starting point.” At various times in the game, the Spurs fans made it clear where their loyalties lie. They sang for Kane, they chanted for Conte and they made their displeasure with chairman D

Will ensure Quad continues to be force for good: Joint statement by US, Japan

Gambar
Washington: The United States and Japan on Friday said that in association with India and Australia, they will ensure that the Quad continues to be a force for good. The two countries said this in a joint statement after the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan at the White House on Friday. "With an unbreakable bilateral relationship as our foundation, we will also collaborate with others, in the region and beyond, for the benefit of the Indo-Pacific and the world," the joint statement said. "Together with Australia and India, we will ensure the Quad continues to be a force for good, committed to bringing tangible benefits to the region, including by delivering results on global health, cybersecurity, climate, critical and emerging technologies, and maritime domain awareness," it read. Known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, the Quad comprises India, the United States, Japan and Australia. According to the joint stat

House Oversight chair vows to hold hearings on Biden's handling of documents

Gambar
Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the new House Oversight Committee chair, vowed Thursday to hold hearings on President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents. When asked about timing, he said as soon as “we can get everything in place. We requested a lot of information. As soon as that comes in.” Comer also told reporters that he “is not a fan” of special counsels, in part because he doesn’t have confidence in whoever Attorney General Merrick Garland might appoint, and thinks his committee can be “more effective.” But, he added: “The fact that they called for special counsel for Trump's handling of classified documents, I don't see how they can not appoint a special counsel” for Biden. Comer said he has not yet heard back from the National Archives after sending them a letter requesting more information, which he called “concerning.” The top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee is also asking whether Defense Department officials have been contacted to cooperate w

BREAKING NEWS: Boskalis threatens to leave the Netherlands

Gambar
Boskalis, an international services provider operating in the dredging, maritime infrastructure and maritime services sectors, may leave the Netherlands. The company CEO, Peter Berdowski, said on Sven Op 1 radio show that the chance for this scenario is very real. The main topic of the radio debate was a new law on corporate social responsibility. In an interview with FD earlier this week, he also confirmed that “it would be impossible for him to do business in the Netherlands once the new law comes into force.” According to Berdowski, it is his managerial responsibility to always think about the best place for the company. “That has been the Netherlands for the past 110 years, but that is not self-evident. We are now taking that seriously,” said the CEO. The decision has not yet been made, but the CEO of the Papendrecht based company is not positive on this situation. The obligation of companies to go green is difficult for Boskalis, said Berdowski, who also pointed out that there a

NEWS: Cristiano Ronaldo completes Al Nassr move

Gambar
Cristiano Ronaldo has completed a transfer to Al Nassr. Ronaldo was strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League side after his second spell at Manchester United ended in acrimonious fashion in late November. That comment, as well as Ronaldo's declaration that United had "betrayed" him, led the Red Devils to terminate his contact shortly after the start of the World Cup in Qatar. Al Nassr emerged as frontrunners and on Friday the 37-year-old's transfer was officially confirmed. Reports have suggested Ronaldo has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal and will earn £62million (€69.9m) per season. "History in the making," Al Nassr tweeted. "This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome @Cristiano to your new home @AlNassrFC." Ronaldo's move is seen as effectively bringing down the curtai
