Harry Kane draws level with Jimmy Greaves to give Tottenham vital win

Harry Kane now stands level with Jimmy Greaves at the top of Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time goalscoring record after netting for the 266th time for the club.

His latest goal, scored despite suffering from a fever, was enough to drag Spurs out of their rut and put Antonio Conte’s team back in Champions League contention, three points behind Manchester United.

The big difference, of course, is that Greaves won three major trophies with Spurs and Kane is still chasing his first piece of team silverware, while having to scrap it out for European qualification.

Conte said: “It’s important to have this record, but what is more important is to lift a trophy.”Asked if winning silverware at Spurs is realistic, Conte added: “We have to be dreamers. I said to the players today that this (victory) has to be a starting point.”

At various times in the game, the Spurs fans made it clear where their loyalties lie. They sang for Kane, they chanted for Conte and they made their displeasure with chairman Daniel Levy known.
